Victorian School Day

What a fabulous day we had on Thursday! A huge thank you to everyone for all the lovely costumes. The children all looked absolutely fantastic. In the morning we had a formal English and Maths lesson with the children all sitting in rows at desks, learning facts about Queen Victoria, writing on slate boards and standing up when visitors entered the room. In the afternoon they all had a go at lots of different Victorian activities - sketching, making peg dolls, Welsh cakes and cup and ball games, plus lots of fun activities in the yard. Here are a few photos of our day.

Lining up ready for lessons - boys in one line, girls in another.

A spot of drill before lessons.

Not too sure what to expect!

Poor Ewan had to wear a Dunce's hat for shouting out! Fabulous acting Ewan!

Working hard at some handwriting.

Role play in the afternoon.

A drawing lesson.

Making peg dolls

Enjoying marbles

Our class photo!

Well done to Ewan for being our Seren Yr Wythnos this week and for also winning our colour table prize. Our colour for the week after half term is orange.

Apologies to you all for a slight mix up over the codes that came home today. If your child brought someone else's code home please send it back into school after half term. I will sort out a list of the correct codes .

I hope you all have a lovely week. We will see you all on Monday 31st October.

This week in Dosbarth 9

First of all a big congratulations to Jessica Beynon who was our Seren yr Wythnos last week . Da Iawn Jessica! Also well done to Mollie who brought in last week's most unusual yellow object. We've already had some lovely green objects in for this week.

This week I am sending a note home with some reading books to let you know which 'Tricky Words' we have been learning (Tricly Words are ones that don't follow conventional spelling patterns and are therefore 'tricky' for the children to sound out). I have also sent a Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check sheet home to help the children to learn these words.

Show and Tell on Friday will be group Gwyrdd who missed out last week. Next week will be group Melyn.

I have been talking to the children about our Victorian Day next week and they have come up with some lovely ideas to make it as realistic as possible. If anyone is stuck for ideas for costumes www.victorianschool.co.uk is an excellent website with lots of pictures that may help you. If anyone is unable to provide a costume please let us know and we will try to help. Also if anyone has any 'olden days' games or toys that we could borrow we would be really grateful - spinning tops, cup and ball, marbles etc.

Finally a huge diolch yn fawr to Nicole's granny who came into class today to talk to us about her school days. The children loved hearing about what she did at school and also about how different her home life was. They had lots of questions to ask and all listened really well.

See you all tomorrow

Literacy Week

Well done to everyone for all their hard work on Little Red Riding Hood last week. The children really enjoyed making their story scrolls and came up with some fabulous ways to change the story (I particularly liked the wolf on a bicycle!).
Well done also to Liam Poulton who was our Seren Yr Wythnos this week.
Thank you to everyone who sent in red items for our red table last week - the table looked fabulous. We've already had some yellow items in for our 'yellow week' but the table is still looking quite empty - loads more please!
